Published thresholds extend to P99 where quality allows. Shaded bands show a supported range, not an exact personal percentile. No extrapolation beyond the usable data.
Based on workplace, not home address. Selecting a region updates the chart automatically. It does not change your tax settings.

Extra gross pay equals extra take-home plus the four deduction changes. Monthly change is the annual take-home difference divided by 12, rounded to a penny.
Two full-year estimates using your current tax, pension and loan settings. This is a salary increase, not a one-off bonus or a mid-year payslip forecast. Benefits, other income and pension tax charges are not modelled. Try a different pay rise.

Your take-home uses 2026/27 rules. The benchmarks use 2025 provisional ONS earnings data. These are different reference periods, deliberately labelled.

Who are you comparing with?
Full-time employee jobs on adult rates, held for more than a year, in the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings. Annual gross earnings cover the tax year ending 5 April 2025 and can include bonuses and overtime. This is a comparison with jobs, not every person in the UK, and excludes self-employment.
Full-time means more than 30 paid hours a week, or 25 or more for teaching professions. A part-time salary is not a like-for-like comparison. Regional results use workplace location, not residence, and do not measure purchasing power.
How do the percentile bands work?
If your salary falls between the published 60th and 70th percentile thresholds, we show the 60th–70th percentile band. Above P90, the additional ONS release supplies one-percentile steps where quality allows. The UK P99 threshold is £186,840, so £250,000 supports a top-1% band. We do not infer an exact rank or estimate beyond P99.
Regions have different quality limits. London’s last usable point is P97 (£207,988), so £250,000 supports “Top 3%; finer rank unavailable”. Its P98 has a 32.8% coefficient of variation and P99 has no usable CV, so neither is included. Below P10 we retain the open-ended lower band.
A smooth guide connects published thresholds; it does not estimate an exact personal percentile. Unavailable points are not bridged. Auto view focuses on P90–P100 only when all selected salaries reach that region’s P90; otherwise it shows the whole distribution. Map colours represent supported lower bounds, not precise rankings, population density or cost of living. A salary's benchmark position is based on gross earnings before pension deductions.
ASHE 2025 is provisional. The core tables were released 23 October 2025; the P90–P99 regional release followed on 4 November 2025. Data checked on 17 October 2026, before publication of ASHE 2026. Benchmarks are not adjusted for inflation.
Annual gross earnings: full-time employee jobs (£). Unavailable means excluded for unreliable or unavailable sampling precision.

Tax calculation scope
A full year in one job, with monthly pay, the standard Personal Allowance and category A National Insurance. Income Tax is an annual-liability estimate; National Insurance and loan deductions use monthly thresholds. Actual payroll and tax codes can differ. No benefits in kind, other income, Child Benefit charge, pension tax charges or relief-at-source calculation is included.
Auto-enrolment assumes full-year enrolment, using 5% employee and 3% employer on monthly qualifying earnings of £520–£4,189. Eligibility is not checked. Custom pension percentages use full reference salary. Choose your actual scheme's payment method; salary sacrifice and net pay can produce different results.
The calculator runs in this browser tab without sending your salary or pension inputs to a calculation server. Optional Cloudflare Web Analytics measures page visits and loading performance only after you agree. We store only your analytics choice, not your financial inputs. No advertising or user accounts are active. You can change your choice using Analytics preferences in the footer. Reloading resets your entries. Only the comparison view and breakdown period are kept in the URL, never your salary.

EARNINGS REFERENCE
UK Salary Benchmarks, Explained
Official earnings data, clear comparison limits and worked examples. The figures below describe full-time employee jobs, not every UK resident.
What salary puts you in the UK top 1%?
The published 2025 provisional ONS threshold is £186,840 in annual gross earnings. The top-5% threshold is £99,387 and the top-10% threshold is £76,903. The UK median is £39,039. These survey estimates cover annual pay for the tax year ending 5 April 2025; they are not inflation-adjusted or exact live population cutoffs.
How does your workplace region change the comparison?
Regions have different pay distributions and different statistical quality limits. A £250,000 salary is in the UK top-1% band, but the London data only supports “Top 3%; finer rank unavailable”. A workplace comparison does not adjust for housing costs or change your Income Tax jurisdiction.
